Before you start, take note that Lance is proven the overall best weapon type of dealing damage in this game, using it solo red fata is the fastest and safest way. That is, however, if you know how to use a lance correctly.
Since smart people like you guys are choosing lance kill red fata, I assume all of you are good at using lance and understand what I am talking about here.
Miniguide for solo Red Fatalis with Lance by Kayin

1 - Weapon and Armor set up

Weapon:
Black Ruiner Lance or True BlackDragon Spr
Armor:
Saint Sword Piercing
Khezu Mail U
Borealis GauntletMai (would be Auroros Gauntlet Mai if your character is male, same for the others)
Borealis Tasset Mai
Borealis Pants Mai
Skill: ESP, Guard+1, Damage Recovery Speed+1
Defense: 142
The armor setup here are all about the skills, the defense is a bit low, but enough for this battle.
The ESP skill will reduce the sharpness lost when bouncing by half, while preventing your weapon from bouncing in the first place. This is why it is so effective in fatalis fight with melee weapon type.
Guard+1 let you take less damage, and less backward distance when guarding red fata’s attack while Damage Recovery Speed+1 helps you recover some of the damage lose during battle.

That’s all you need for solo red fata with lance
You don’t need any fancy stuff like Ancient Potion, Max Potion , Ice Crystal or Bitterbug at all
you should be able to block all red fata’s melee attack anyway, no need for any healing item
If you run short on Mega Juice, don’t forget you can always trade your blos fang or jaw to Jungle elder for easy Mega Juice.
Mega Demondrug, Mega Armorskin, Power Seed, Armor Seed, Large Bomb+ are all other tool items that can help you with this fight. However, they are not required, so do what you feel like.
And for those who try this way for the first time, bring some Ice Crystal and Bitterbug for extra Cool Drink.

3 - Battle Steps

The following steps are for Red Fatalis only, but you can get the idea for lance kill its brother
1) When the quest starts, run to the side as soon as you take control of your charactor to avoid the deadly
body slam attack, then drink your Mega Juice as well as Cool Drink.
==> Note:
Red Fatalis will act according to your actions in battle, so here I don’t really have any exact step to follow, but more like what you can do while red fata is doing its move.
2) When this red boy is standing on the ground, get yourself right in front of its belly and attack there. You can simply block its roar, claw attack and foot step with your shield, don’t forget this.
3) The triangle+circle charge attack is the key of dealing major damage to red fata in this battle. Aim at the open space between its belly and right leg, and start your charge attack toward there. Each charge attack can hit it for 3 or 4 times, then immediately press triangle to cancel your move when you reach the back of its right leg, which is the “Safe Zone”.
4) Try to move around and make it turns. If it turns twice, it would be totally safe to lunch all 3 triangle combo; however if it only turn once, that means it is going to attack really soon, remember do not put your weapon away or backward too far when it happens, simply walk a few steps to the side to avoid upcoming danger, or you can always block.
5) Always fight in the open area, especially when you are using charge attack, if you get to the corner the camera view will be really nasty. Sometimes even worse with Red Fata’s body alone with the wall are blocking the whole screen, you can’t really see a thing in this kind of mess.
6) by the time red fata flies to sky, that’s the safe moment to sharp your weapon. It would be better if you can keep the sharpness of your weapon at blue.
7) When the red boy finishes its 4 sky fireball attack and lands, that’s the moment you follow this combo on its pretty face: circle, circle, x, triangle, circle, circle, triangle+circle.
this combo will deal more than 9 hits in a really short time, much better then using the rage combo of duals on its face in terms of damage. But it is not easy to do, requires some timing in order to lunch all hits successfully, especially the first 5 hits. I would suggest you take some practice with this combo.
8) For the most dangerous meteor rain attack of red fata, charge your way to the back of its right leg and continue your attack there. Never stand at the left or right of its body, you will still get hit if you do so.
9) Use bombs to help you break its body parts. The whole fight would take you about 40 minutes if you are fighting Red Fatalis with lance for the first time. Once you get used to its move and all, the time will be much less. My record so far is about 29 minutes solo with bombs; it can still be improved, due to the fact that lancing is not my specialty.

4 - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to bring any healing item for the first time?
A: The answer would be yes if you are not comfortable with lancing. Since you can block almost all of its melee attacks with your shield, you won’t take much damage. But if that makes you more confident, by all means yes, bring them if you wish. Also, bring extra power juice, too.
Q: Why do you recommend bombs for fatalis fight?
A: Each large bomb+ does 150 set damage to fatalis, which is a GREAT amount. With bomber skill from Felyne Mask,
the damage is even greater: 150 x 1.5 = 225 set damage for each large bomb+
with 25 large bomb+ plus Felyne Mask, the total damage you can deal is up to 225 x 25 = 5625 (!!!!)
check the HP data of each monster, and see for yourself how HUGE this damage actually is
you can easily solo any fatalis quest with any weapon type if you can make it happen
Q: Is there any other lance would work besides Black Ruiner Lance and True BlackDragon Spr?
A: So far I’ve only tried those 2, but I am pretty sure Black Tempest can do the same job, but it would take a little longer
