Technology is a mind fuck, isn’t it? Here we are, the human race, a species intelligent enough to design a metal bird with the ability to transport hundreds of people from JFK to London Heathrow in a matter of hours. We’re so mentally advanced, we’ve created cars that can self park. We, as creative people, are bold enough to put ourselves on a Broadway stage and recite thousands of words from memory all the while making you think they’re being said for the first time. But yet, we’re the same species that will get on stage at the 2012 Grammy Awards and lip sync the words to a song we should know like the back of our hand cause we don’t trust ourselves to go out there and nail it! Did ya’ll see the so called “DJ” Grammy performances? Shit, who needs to practice the skills it takes to be an experienced DJ when technology allows you to get in front of a pair of CDJ turntables and hand sync all your movements. All you gotta do is nod in the headphones that you don’t even need since you aren’t cueing in another track. Maybe add a little fist pump or two for good measure. What we saw on this years Grammy’s wasn’t too far from that! A dedicated artist or DJ should stand up for their craft and reject the producer’s suggestion of using a pre recorded performance to be safe. Safe?! Isn’t this your livelihood, the reason you practice and put time into the art your creating? You couldn’t even see the decks when Deadmau5 “performed” because the focus was on the marquee going across his oversized mouse head. So what exactly was he doing? All I’m saying is there was a mockery of “Djing” going on at the 2012 Grammys that really misrepresented the true art form. The basis of a live performance is to PERFORM!
