Today's letters include FPS gaming, most anticipated titles, WiFi, and more.
Umm...I hate my DS. I want to love it, I really do. But how can I when all the games stink, and the good ones are months away!?!?! I am all for waiting, but it will have been out for like, 6 months (!) before any good software is out. MAN! Just needed to vent. Thanks. :( Oh, and it is sitting on a shelf collecting dust with a measly level from Metroid, and a poor excuse for a Mario game! :(

Vent away. It is more than a little disappointing for a company to release a system and offer just one first party game for three months. Super Mario 64 DS is indeed the system's best game, and the next title out of the company, WarioWare Touched! is a really good one too. But it doesn't really bode well for a system when the company releasing the thing doesn't back it with a good amount of its own software, instead depending on third parties to do the job. At least we got The Minish Cap to hold us over.

The battle will be bloody and fun to watch come this March when the System-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named is released in the US, and that's when I'm guessing that Nintendo will start the price-drop push as well as offer up an array of colored Nintendo DS systems for the market to scarf up. But that's just pure speculation, so don't come crying to me in two months when you find yourself unable to get a DS system for less than $125 or in a plaid hue.

I have a simple question( to me its simple anyway). In the most recent ds mailbag, you said that you can play Animal Crossing DS with anyone in the world using your wireless internet, if in fact they have that feature when they release Animal Crossing ds. My question is do you have to have wireless internet? All I have is a cable modem and I don't want to be left out in the cold when everyone is trading chairs and rugs and what not over the globe. Thanks for your time.

First, let's not immediately jump up and down with excitement for Animal Crossing DS' potential WiFi features. There will be connectivity, but Nintendo hasn't really started the push for wireless internet support yet, so I'm slowly coming to the expectation that the chances for worldwide trading in Animal Crossing DS are pretty low. Prove me wrong, Nintendo, prove me wrong.
But it's super easy to set up a Cable Modem connection for WiFi -- you just need a wireless router, which can be obtained for about 70 bucks nowadays.

hi guys. i don't know if anyone has emailed you about this yet or not but can you please answer this. I was reading the IGNCUBE mail a little while ago and was reading about if and when the new GBA will be coming out to compete with the PSP. Matts comments got me to thinking. His comments made me think back to when there was this THING called the Virtual Boy. We all know that it didn't do too well. So my quesiton is do you think the DS will have the same fate as the ill-fated Virtual Boy?

I don't think the DS is a Virtual Boy. Not a chance. The DS is an incredibly capable and creative system when enough time and budget's put into a project. The Virtual Boy, on the other hand, had TONS of strikes against it from the start: it's wasn't a very portable portable, the screen only offered shades of red, no one could watch you play the games, you had to sit uncomfortably close to the system in order to play it, and you couldn't multitask when your face was shoved into the visor. It was just a bad concept all around.

I'd like to add that the first person shooters will be all over the DS because the touch screen is very responsive. The joypad is place under the D-pad on PSP so it will use the d-pad and x,triangle,O,square buttons resulting in bad response to first person shooters making the DS hav an advantage. Thanks!

Absolutely. The Nintendo DS is made for first-person shooters as proven by Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt. The lower screen gives a lot more 'mouselook' control than an analog stick could ever dream of offering. PSP first-person shooters will certainly look cooler because of that system's hardware capabilities, but in terms of control, I believe the DS has the upperhand on FPS titles.
