业界最严格的EDGE网站 AWARDS 2008 年度大奖公布,《小小大星球》横扫千军

EDGE评分以严格著称

《BioShock》和《MGS4》都只得了8分,《辐射3》只得了7分,《抵抗2》和《使命召唤5》都只得了6分,《极品飞车》最新作只得了3分,但《小小大星球》得了满分。

冠军获奖理由:

If you’ve played LBP with a small child, you’ll know its ability to captivate both of you. You’re playing it with different interests in mind – perhaps the child is enjoying the movement, the slapstick and the tactility; perhaps you’re figuring out how the level was made, and challenging yourself with daring jumps and puzzle solving.

But you’re playing together, a generation apart, exactly the same content. LBP is aware of this, supporting playing alone, with friends in the room and with strangers online with equanimity – and that’s before you consider the other side of LBP, which covers many more motivations.

Designers can build A-to-B levels, mechanics can invent machines of rare complexity, directors can use it to stage machinima, fanboys can lovingly recreate the games they obsess over. It’s this multi-dimensional quality that has earned it game of the year status.

亚军:Left 4 Dead,New Xbox Experience

冠军获奖理由:

When developers began shipping editors with their games – from Pinball Construction Set to UnrealEd – they introduced new levels of depth to players, but also a new problem. How could they combine accessibility with enough power to achieve similar production values as professionally built levels? It hadn’t been until LittleBigPlanet that any developer had solved it.

Media Molecule’s editor walks the delicate line with apparent ease, never feeling like operating Photoshop through a gamepad. Yes, it’s tricky to edit objects that you’ve placed behind others, and you’ll frequently need to improvise solutions, but that’s central to the mix.

LittleBigPlanet’s toolset transforms the act of editing into a physical craft – tangible and logical for newcomers and yet deep, so the best creators can make levels that will surely better Media Molecule’s own. The result is an editor that’s as engaging as the act of playing itself.

亚军:Far Cry 2,Street Fighter IV

冠军获奖理由:

It’s ironic that one of the most abstract game premises – animated sackcloth dolls in a user-created world of platforms and fatal clouds of gas – should be rendered with some of the most realistic realtime game graphics yet created.

But it’s entirely fitting for a game that hinges on material qualities, and LittleBigPlanet communicates each of the substances in its palette with subtlety, from the hard slide of glass to soft stuffed fabric; eddying flames to shimmering gold trimmings.

The lighting helps, richly atmospheric with delicate haze, shadow and colour. Couple such technical achievements with Media Molecule’s visual imagination, which marries Indian gods and Dia de los Muertos skulls with hipster glyphs and grimy machinery, and LittleBigPlanet comes alive – a life that’s already proven adaptable enough in the hands of players to form surreal dreamscapes and windswept castles, creepy houses and modernist edifices. A triumph.

亚军:GTA4 Rockstar North,横冲直撞 Criterion Games

冠军获奖理由:

Just 27 people worked on LittleBigPlanet at Media Molecule as it entered into its final stages of completion.

That’s not counting Sony’s cohorts of networking specialists, testers and translators, of course, but it’s safe to say that LBP’s invention can be attributed to this small group.

They designed a creation interface that makes the act of making as fun as playing, and created a videogame world of beguiling physicality. They’ve looked far and wide for art inspiration, well outside the clichés that videogame art is so often built upon, and created a new mascot for Sony as they’ve done so.

They’ve studied social networking websites and transposed into a game environment the way people share material and interact. They’ve produced a suite of levels that display invention of their own and also serve as guides to encourage players to embark on their own journeys of design and construction. Just 27 people.



年度最佳在线游戏:Left 4 Dead

冠军获奖理由:

In other games, co-op means occasionally giving your buddy a leg up. But Valve, with its talent for understanding what makes players tick, has built an experience in which co-operation fundamentally is the game, rather than just a tactic.

The most radical individualism in Left 4 Dead is defined only by the extent to which you protect your fellows: hardened veterans willingly chaperone dithering, terrified strangers through the zombie onslaught, and even die to protect them. Every aspect of the game feeds into this: the simple necessity to save and be saved by other players; the superb world-building; the minor details of the HUD that keep you aware of your team’s condition.

No online game has created such a powerful sense of collective responsibility before, or told us which of our friends we should rely on when the zombie apocalypse inevitably arrives.



年度最佳听觉设计:Dead Space
亚军:GTA4,No More Heroes

冠军获奖理由:

In Dead Space, the most terrifying ambushes come not from the shadows but from the speakers. The clink of chains and trickling water; rolling kettle drums; the deadened umph of a zero-gravity gunshot: EA’s devilish horror has all the best sounds.

A score by Jason Graves conveys the immensity of the Ishimura one moment, claustrophobia the next, switching between them seamlessly. For every cue it steals from the masters of horror, it does something bold and new. The troubled breathing of hero Isaac Clarke indicates the oxygen level in his tanks, his heartbeat, his health, and when the air rushes out of the ship’s hull you’re left with the most dangerous sound of all: silence.

If nothing else, this will be remembered as the game that turned luxury into necessity: to brave it in anything less than 5.1 surround is like playing through a space helmet.

冠军获奖理由:

Though Xbox 360 hardware issues still nag at Microsoft like a canker, few would doubt its other achievements over the last 12 months.

A series of price cuts have placed the basic model as the cheapest console on the market by some margin, while estimates suggest that Xbox 360 sells the most software in the current generation, with an attach rate of 8.1 games per machine, compared to PS3 at 5.3 and Wii at 5.5.

As such, Xbox 360 is a compelling prospect for both consumers and publishers, all at a time when Microsoft has invested so much in lending it broader appeal with a new dashboard. Xbox Live, meanwhile, is still unchallenged as the best console online gaming service in the world, and Video Marketplace has now reached a size and scope that rivals dedicated online media providers.

Microsoft’s continuing development has been intelligent and extensive, and every user has profited from that.

冠军获奖理由:

Last year, Microsoft Game Studios was responsible for a series of strong core releases, including Halo 3 and Mass Effect, but Scene It? and Viva Piñata Party Animals were weak attempts to push Xbox 360 into a broader arena.

This year, Microsoft has created a far more convincing software line-up to match its ambitions for its console, ably covering the hardcore with Lost Odyssey, Gears Of War 2 and Ninja Gaiden 2 and, mostly successfully, more casual markets with Lips and Scene It? Box Office Smash.

Fable II and Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts were original takes on older properties that have wider appeal, while XBLA was similarly strong, with a summer of releases including Braid, Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 and Galaga Legions. The diversity and quality on offer through MGS over the last 12 months has done a huge amount to strengthen 360 as a platform.

虽然俺完全不同意他们最终评选的结果,
不过还是希望小小大星球可以卖的稍微好一些,
毕竟目前的销量与评价太不成比例了。
