November 16, 2004 - Bearing the load of being the only full-on RPG due out for PSP through 2004 (and also being the only of two games with old-school 2D graphics, alongside Capcom's Darkstalkers), Bandai's Gagharv Trilogy has a little bit riding on it. Luckily, the game comes from the pedigree team of Nihon Falcom, and Bandai has enough faith in the effort to put it up in the launch period of PlayStation Portable, releasing just a few days after the system ships.
On the PlayStation.com PSWorld site, which features final dates and prices for a number of PSP games, Bandai's The Gagharv Trilogy: The White Witch is confirmed for a release on December 16th, 2004 in Japan. The listing also lists a price tag much lower than initially announced -- the game was originally to be released for a whopping 6800 yen, but the new price brings it down to the level of the rest of the PSP games at just 4800 yen.
The game, a port of a classic PC title (also released on PlayStation and Saturn way back when) from Nihon Falcom, features vastly improved visuals that include 3D effects in the world map and an improved battle system, as well as new symphonic music. The simple battle system allows combat to play out in a semi-automatic system, where players choose their actions but don't have to babysit the character's choices in a fight or make every button tap for a sword stroke.
Bandai has not announced any plans of bringing The Gagharv Trilogy over to America, but with so few RPGs on the PSP this early on, it does have a chance if it's good. We'll have impressions of the game once it's available on the 16th in Japan. |
