In total, 5,058 people made bids for the PSP. Coming in with the top bid was a person by the nickname of 'genhara,' who placed a bid for 338,888 yen (about $3,380) at 11:02PM. This was followed by one more bid in the $3,000 range, two bids in the $2,000 range and twenty bids above $1000.
At the other end, the lowest winning bid was for 50,000 yen (about $500). This bid was made by at least eighty-one people. A few smart individuals added an insurance of one yen on top of that bid just to make sure they made it in above what would seem like an obvious lowest bid.
SCE will be giving all proceeds, including the entire cost of the PSP system, to funds benefiting victims of the Nigata earthquakes. The winning bidders will get the PSP system a week in advance. |
