In an article posted this morning by gamesindustry.biz, it was revealed that the RPG publishing king Square Enix has hopes to grow its overseas sales to such an extent that it would become 50% of the company's total business income. Reportedly, foreign acquisitions are among the strategies currently being considered.
Square Enix's president Yoichi Wada remarked in a recent Bloomberg interview that the current percentage of company revenue brought in from overseas is 30%, and that hitting 50% is definitely one of the company's ultimate goals.
The first movement towards executing this 50% plan came early on in Wada's move to President, when he began direct publishing of Square Enix products in Europe after a long hiatus in the PAL territories. Additionally, starting on April 1, Square Enix will begin a "one title per month" release schedule with new titles planned for the Dragon Quest and Star Ocean franchises, in addition to the DVD/UMD movie, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and highly-popular sequel, Final Fantasy XII. |
