Sony's Playstation 3 will beat out Microsoft's Xbox 360 in 2008, UBS analyst Mike Wallace said in a report on Tuesday.
Wallace believes that the Xbox 360 at 10M sold will maintain a lead over the PS3 at 7M sold in 2007, however feels that Sony will be the dominant player by the end of 2008.
Wallace thinks that Nintendo's Revolution console will remain in a distant third place at 3M sold by 2007.
Three years into the next-gen race in 2009, UBS predicts PS3 at 23M sold, Xbox 360 at 20M sold, and Revolution at 10M sold.
The figures are in contrast to Citigroup's estimates that see the Xbox 360 in the lead over PS3 and Revolution in 2008.
Microsoft has sold only 600,000 Xbox 360 units to date due to availability problems at retail. Sony is predicted to push back the PS3 launch from spring to early summer in Japan, followed by a drop to the U.S. in Nov. Nintendo said that it will release Revolution by Thanksgiving this year. |
