In the keynote address at GDC 2006 earlier this morning, Phil Harrison gave a number of details on where the Playstation Portable is headed and confirmed a few past updates that we have covered recently. One of the most anticipated announcements was that PSP Games will now be available via download over the internet to our Memory Sticks. Also forget waiting for a PS1 homebrew emulator for the time being, an official Playstation One emulator will be supported by Sony's Playstation Portable and will be available soon.
In addition two new products will be made available for the PSP. A USB Camera / EyeToy-esique type product which is scheduled to debut in September, and a PSP GPS device (Global Positioning System) said to be available in October. More firmware updates are scheduled without a doubt, the next upgrade will allow for Flash while browsing the internet and a RSS aggregator update. VOIP for communication based gaming on PSP is also being ironed out. Finally, the price on the PSP has also just been dropped, from the release price of $250 down to $199. Not to mention the almost concurrent price of the PSP SDK.
