'Yu-Gi-Oh! HeroClix'
And 'Dice-Building'
WizKids will produce HeroClix and Dice-Building games (a la Quarriors) featuring the Yu-Gi-Oh! Classic animation library under license from 4K Media Inc., the companies announced today. This brings together the #2 and #3 collectible game brands in the hobby channel (see "Top Collectible Games--Summer 2012") into one new product line, an undeniably potent combination.
The first Yu-Gi-Oh! HeroClix release will include around 50 figures in both two-player Starter and Booster Pack configurations. Release is planned for "later this year," with expansions planned for 2014.
The license is exclusive for all world territories except Asia. 4K Media Inc. is the new wholly owned subsidiary of Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. (producer of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG) created out of assets acquired from 4Kids Entertainment last year (see "Top Ten Hobby Games Business Events of 2012").
WizKids parent NECA also obtained a Yu-Gi-Oh! license, for creation of collectibles and accessories for older collectors based on Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG art (see "'Yu-GI-Oh!' Collectibles and Accessories").

We caught up with WizKids CEO Justin Ziran for a few quick questions about the company’s new Yu-Gi-Oh! license (see "'Yu-Gi-Oh! HeroClix'"), announced today.
For Yu-Gi-Oh! HeroClix, who do you think the customers will be?
Yu-Gi-Oh! fans and gamers around the world. Specifically, those who enjoy 3-D figural gameplay.
Any other Yu-Gi-Oh! games from WizKids planned beyond HeroClix and dicebuilding?
Yes, we plan on releasing Yu-Gi-Oh! products on three platforms: HeroClix, Dice Building Games, and our puzzle building game platform, Connect with Pieces.
Any thoughts about cross-promotions with the TCG?
Absolutely, we'll be supporting the license in a variety of ways and I expect to be working closely with my counterparts at Konami on ideas and cross-promotions.

'Yu-Gi-Oh!' Collectibles and Accessories
NECA has acquired a license from 4K Media Inc. to produce collectibles and accessories based on Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game artwork, the first time that any licensee has been granted permission to use art from the TCG, the companies announced today.
The target market for the NECA line will be older collectors, which has not previously had Yu-Gi-Oh! products created for it.
"We are happy to have a partner in NECA who understands this customer niche and appreciates our fan base," 4K president Shinichi Hanamoto said. "We look forward to being able to provide product for this demographic of ours who have been clamoring for it for many years."
NECA Yu-Gi-Oh! products will include action figures, headknockers, collectible replicas, puzzles, jewelry, posters, calendars, and accessories. The first products will be released in time for Comic-Con in July, and will continue to roll out through the end of the year.
The license is exclusive for all world territories except Asia. 4K Media Inc. is the new wholly owned subsidiary of Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. (producer of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG) created out of assets acquired from 4Kids Entertainment last year.
